Weather Permitting on Friday, May 5, 2006, I-435 will be closed from US-69 to Metcalf Avenue to remove the Antioch Bridge over I-435. Beginning Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. the outside lane of eastbound and westbound I-435 will be closed, at 9:00 p.m. a second lane will be closed leaving motorist with one driving lane. At 10:00 p.m. I-435 will completely close. By 8:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006 the interstate will be opened to unrestricted traffic.
During the I-435 closure a marked detour will be provided. For motorist traveling eastbound I-435 the detour will be via US-69 south, to College Boulevard east, to Metcalf north returning to I-435. For motorist traveling westbound I-435 the detour will be via Metcalf Avenue south, to College Boulevard west, to US-69 north returning to I-435.
During the construction motorist should expect major delays. The Kansas Department of Transportation advises drivers to take alternate routes if possible.
Clarkson Construction Company is the contractor on the 127 million dollar, 4 year project. The scheduled completion date for the entire project is June 2009.
