2006 Traffic Impacts
I-435 & Antioch Interchange Project
2006 will
be the first full year of construction on the I-435 and Antioch Interchange
project. The City of Overland Park and Kansas Department of Transportation are
providing a tentative schedule of traffic impacts for 2006. All of this
information is subject to change based on weather and the contractor's schedule
of work. As specific dates for construction operations affecting traffic are
determined, the information is contained in KDOT press releases and City of
Overland Park press releases as appropriate.
I-435
- I -435 will be closed for at least two consecutive nights in late April or early May
to demolish the existing Antioch Bridge over I-435.
- I-435 will be closed at least one night this summer to erect steel girders for the new
southbound Antioch Bridge over I-435.
- While I-435 will generally be maintained with three lanes of traffic in each
direction, there will be intermittent daily lanes closures on I-435 throughout
the construction season for various work activities.
- I-435 Bridges over Metcalf will have some deck repairs and are to be re-surfaced this
year. There is a two week period of time when I-435 will be reduced to two lanes each direction. More information will be provided at a later time.
US-69
- The inside lane of southbound US 69, between 95Mth Street and 103rd Street,
will be closed early this summer to widen the inside shoulder.
- Temporary Concrete Safety Barriers will be placed along the outside shoulder on northbound
US 69, between 103rd Street and 95th Street. The barriers will
separate the construction area for the new sound barrier wall on the east side
of US 69.
Antioch Road
- Antioch Road is currently reduced to one lane in each direction, from north of the
Indian Creek Bridge to south of I-435. This condition will remain through
November. The exact location of the driving lanes will be shifted several
times during the construction season as elements of the new Indian Creek
Bridge and I-435 Bridge are completed.
- Antioch Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction, starting in early summer, to
widen Antioch Road from south of I-435 to 110th Street. This reduction will
continue through November.
Metcalf Avenue
- The eastbound exit ramp from I-435 to Metcalf Avenue is reduced to 2 lanes through November.
- The westbound entrance ramp from Metcalf Avenue to I-435 is configured for two lanes through
November.
- There will be intermittent closures of the southbound outside lane of Metcalf,
from 107th Street to I-435, in the early summer as the new west bound
ramps are constructed.
Indian Creek Parkway
- The eastbound turn lane for northbound Antioch Road is reduced to one lane from now until November.
- During the widening of Antioch Road, from south of I-435 to 110th Street,
the intersection of Indian Creek Parkway/108th Terrace and Antioch Road
will be completely reconstructed this summer.
103rd Street
- Eastbound 103rd Street will be reduced to one lane for utility relocation work starting in April and
continuing for at least sixty [60] days.
- In addition, there will be brief closures on other, non-arterial streets, periodically throughout the summer due to work on
Antioch Road and 103rd Street.
